Who are you?
I should hope that you know me already, but in
case we've never met... Hi! My name is Jotham, I'm from the UK and
studied Games Design at University. I'm also a Christian, and over the
past few years I've felt the call to travel abroad and serve my creator
in any way I could.
What are you doing exactly?
I am volunteering aboard a ship! A sailing ship... (not a boat that's very offensive)... called the Logos Hope.
What does that mean?
Logos is a Greek word meaning word, which also describes Jesus Christ (its a very loaded term) and Hope is an English word (you should know that one).
That's not what I meant... I want to know what's this Logos Hope about?
The Logos Hope sails around all different ports and cities with the expressed aim of spreading knowledge, help and hope. Knowledge through the book-fair, help through co-operating with local organisations and hope by talking about the very living hope that we Christians have in Jesus Christ.
How long will you be gone?
Two years, starting September 16th 2022.
What will you be doing onboard?
I don't know yet (I only find out once I board).
What does the Logos Hope look like?
No... I will work five days a week, have one day rest and one day will be a C-Day.
What is a C-Day?
This means connect-day and its when I get to 'connect' with the locals through churches or organisations by doing a whole range of different activities. It could be a church service, or a sports game, or even help build something, they're pretty exciting.
Which countries will you visit?
Visit this webpage to see the upcoming ports: https://www.gbaships.org/en/9-meet-the-fleet/25-upcoming-ports-logos-hope
How can I follow your progress?
I
will be posting semi-regularly on this blogsite, but I also have a
newsletter, which if you would like to receive, send an email to
jotham.bate@sky.com
How can I help support you?
Most important is prayer, but the link to my support page is here: https://www.uk.om.org/appeal/jotham-bate
How can I pray for you?
That Christ Jesus will be glorified through my life and that I will continue to grow in wisdom and maturity in all things.
That I will be used by God to bless other people, especially those who do not yet know the Lord.
That the Logos Hope will continue to be such an encouragement to those onboard and visiting.
